Issues Dave Murzin knows the Issues that face Northwest Florida and will continue lead the way in meeting these challenges.

Economy and Economic Development:

I’ve been a leader on economic development issues for many years.   In 2008, the Speaker appointed me as Chairman of the Economic Development and Community Affairs Council which oversees several committees that focus on important economic factors.  I work tirelessly to ensure the Florida Panhandle can successfully compete for high-wage industries.  Our less-populated Northwest region needs a strong advocate in the Florida Legislature, and I have been and will continue to be that strong voice.  Having been an entrepreneur and small business owner, I believe in promoting and protecting small businesses and free market empowerment.  Jobs are my number one focus!

Taxes:

I’ve always promoted an agenda of lower taxes.  I understand this complex issue and know first-hand how Floridians feel about property taxes.   I worked six years as a Deputy Tax Collector in the Escambia County Tax Collector’s office, and I saw first-hand how high property taxes can rob the American dream.  In 2006, the Governor appointed me as a member of the House Property Tax Reform Committee, and I was subsequently appointed to the Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Reform in 2007.  I traveled across Florida with both Committees to hear Floridians talk about this issue in public forums.  I will continue my fight to keep our taxes low.

Military Missions:

I grew up in a military family and have a strong track record of supporting and protecting our military presence in Florida.  In 2009, I sponsored legislation that will put Florida in the best position for the future of our military installations.   I will be advocating measures this year that give our veterans a break on their property taxes.  I have pushed to keep our schools open to military recruiters.  I sponsored a bill that honored our veterans with high school diplomas if their service during a war time prevented them from receiving it.  I passed legislation that will award scholarships to the children of our military men and women.  I also have worked with Congressman Miller in securing funds for our veterans nursing homes here in Northwest Florida.  Finally, this year, the Speaker appointed me to serve on the newly-formed Florida Council on Military Base and Mission Support.
